“Change is moving in the right direction. It’s not about speed, distance, or perfection, but direction.” -David Powlison
What to Expect
In the first session we will go over the informed consent process so you understand terms of therapy such as confidentiality, late cancellation, etc. Then we may discuss your goals for therapy. For some of you a place to process your thoughts will be your goal. Others may have more measurable goals and will be able to verbalize what changes you will see when you know your goals have been met. I take an integrative approach to therapy and will draw from interventions and techniques most suited to what you are looking for out of therapy. We will discuss together what approach you feel works best. My hope for you in session is that you feel it is a non-judgemental space for you to share whatever you may need to.
Phases of Therapy
There are typically 3 phases of therapy: Early, Treatment, and Termination. The first few sessions you are getting a feel for therapy and trust is being built. During treatment, progress is being made toward your goals, even if that is learning to understand yourself better. Termination happens when you feel that your time in therapy is coming to an end, and you feel your goals have been met.
